With Christmas just around the corner, it is a good idea to plan ahead with your Christmas bookings. Every year, the days either side of Christmas and New Year fill up faster than any other time and it happens earlier than most people think.
If you're planning to travel, host family, or simply have a few festive days away, here's why (and how) to get your cat sitting booking sorted early in the year.
Why the Festive Period Books Up So Fast
Christmas and New Year are naturally one of the most popular times of the year and that means:
Limited availability, as most cat sitters can only take on so many visits per day whilst keeping quality and consistency high.
Existing clients naturally rebook their usual dates from the previous year, filling slots before new enquiries come in.
The result is that popular dates can be fully booked weeks or even months in advance.
When to Book
By early-to-mid November for anything over the Christmas period
Or as soon as your travel plans are confirmed
Book early, if you need visits on Christmas Day or Boxing Day as these are typically the first dates to fill up
If your plans are not confirmed, it's worth making a provisional booking and then adjusting the details nearer the time.
What to Prepare Ahead of the Festive Period
A little extra planning goes a long way over the Christmas period:
Stock up on food, litter, and any medication in case of last-minute supply issues over the holidays.
Let your sitter know about any changes to your usual routine, decorations or the tree that might be tempting to chew or knock over.
Share a way to reach you, since some services, like vets, may have reduced hours
Confirm keyholder access arrangements in good time, especially if you're travelling and won't be able to sort out a spare key at short notice
A Familiar, Calm Presence Over the Holidays
Christmas involves a lot of change, new smells, disrupted routines and your cat having to adjust to an unfamiliar sitter. Keeping your cat in their own home, with a familiar face checking in, means one less disruption during an already busy time of year.
